Every Bokko business has exactly one Owner — the highest-tier role with access to all settings, billing, and sensitive operations. When the business changes hands, ownership must be transferred too. There is currently no dashboard button for this — to request a transfer, contact Bokko support and we will run it for you.
When is transfer needed?
- Change of ownership — Someone else is taking over the business (sale, handover, family succession).
- Switching the primary account holder — You set up Bokko, but going forward your partner should be the responsible Owner.
- Stepping back from operations — You are retiring, but the business continues under someone else.
How the transfer flow works
- 1. Request: As the current Owner, contact Bokko support and tell us who should become the new Owner.
- 2. Prerequisite check: The new Owner must already be a member of the business (with the Manager, Receptionist, or Provider role). If they aren't yet, invite them on the Staff screen first.
- 3. Authentication: The transfer runs only after verified email, fresh re-authentication, and two-factor (TOTP) step-up have all passed.
- 4. Execution: The system rewrites the business owner in a single atomic step — the new Owner is promoted to Owner, and you are demoted to Manager.
- 5. Confirmation: Both parties receive a notification about the successful transfer.
WarningAfter the transfer, you are no longer the Owner. Billing, subscription, and final business actions (e.g. account deletion) move to the new Owner.
Prerequisites
- The new Owner is already a member of the business — invite them on the Staff screen first and wait until they accept.
- The new Owner has verified their email and can sign in with their own account.
- Two-factor authentication (TOTP) is active on the current Owner's account — the transfer flow requires a step-up challenge.
- No live account-deletion request is in progress — ownership cannot be transferred while a deletion is pending.
What changes after the transfer?
- The new Owner receives the Owner role with all owner-level permissions.
- The previous Owner is demoted to Manager — you can still run day-to-day operations, but owner-only actions (e.g. deleting the account, initiating another ownership transfer) are no longer available to you.
- Billing responsibility and subscription management move to the new Owner.
- Bookings, guest records, settings, and integrations do not change.
